1. Agreement to Terms

Welcome to PairUp! These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you and PairUp ("we," "us," or "our") governing your access to and use of our housemate-matching platform, including our website, mobile applications, and all related services (collectively, the "Service").

By accessing or using PairUp, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use the Service.

2. Eligibility

To use PairUp, you must meet the following requirements:

• You must be at least 18 years of age
• You must be a resident of or located in Nigeria
• You must have the legal capacity to enter into binding contracts
• You must not be prohibited from using the Service under Nigerian law
• You must provide accurate and truthful information during registration

By creating an account, you represent and warrant that you meet all eligibility requirements.

3. Account Registration and Security

3.1 Account Creation

To access most features of PairUp, you must create an account. You agree to:

• Maintain and promptly update your account information
• Keep your password confidential and secure
• Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access to your account
• Accept responsibility for all activities that occur under your account

• Phone Verification: SMS verification for added security
• ID Verification: Optional identity verification using government-issued ID

Verified accounts receive a verification badge and may have access to additional features. You consent to our verification processes by submitting verification documents.

3.3 One Account Per Person

You may only maintain one active account. Creating multiple accounts may result in suspension or termination of all your accounts.

4. Service Description

PairUp is a free platform that connects individuals seeking housemates in Nigeria. Our Service includes:

• Profile Creation: Build detailed profiles with preferences and lifestyle information
• Matching Algorithm: AI-powered matching based on compatibility factors
• Messaging: Secure communication with matched users
• Search and Discovery: Browse and search for potential housemates
• Safety Features: User reporting, blocking, and verification systems

4.1 Free Service with Advertisements

PairUp is currently free to use. We display advertisements through Google AdSense to support our platform. By using the Service, you agree to view these advertisements. We may introduce premium features or subscription plans in the future, which will be clearly communicated to users.

5. User Conduct and Responsibilities

5.1 Acceptable Use

When using PairUp, you agree to:

• Provide truthful and accurate information in your profile
• Treat other users with respect and courtesy
• Use the Service only for its intended purpose of finding housemates
• Comply with all applicable Nigerian laws and regulations
• Respect the privacy and intellectual property rights of others
• Take reasonable precautions when meeting other users in person

5.2 Prohibited Activities

You must NOT engage in any of the following activities:

• Explicit Content: Posting, sharing, or requesting sexually explicit content, nudity, or pornography
• Fraud and Scams: Engaging in fraudulent transactions, scams, or deceptive practices
• Harassment: Harassing, threatening, or intimidating other users
• Hate Speech: Posting content that promotes violence, discrimination, or hatred
• Impersonation: Impersonating another person or entity
• Spam: Sending unsolicited commercial messages or spam
• Illegal Activities: Using the Service for illegal purposes or promoting illegal activities
• Minors: Soliciting or contacting users under 18 years of age
• Financial Fraud: Requesting money transfers, bank details, or financial information
• False Information: Providing false, misleading, or deceptive information
• Account Manipulation: Creating fake accounts or manipulating the matching algorithm
• Data Scraping: Scraping, harvesting, or mining user data
• System Interference: Attempting to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to our systems

6. Content and Intellectual Property

6.1 Your Content

You retain ownership of all content you post on PairUp (profile information, photos, messages). By posting content, you grant PairUp a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service.

6.2 Content Responsibility

You are solely responsible for the content you post. You represent that:

• You own or have the necessary rights to post the content
• Your content does not violate any third-party rights
• Your content complies with these Terms and applicable laws

6.3 PairUp's Intellectual Property

All PairUp branding, logos, designs, features, and functionality are owned by PairUp and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not use our intellectual property without our prior written consent.

7. Reporting and Enforcement

7.1 Reporting Users

If you encounter a user who violates these Terms or engages in inappropriate behavior, you can:

• Use the in-app reporting feature to report the user
• Block the user to prevent further contact

7.2 Investigation and Action

We take all reports seriously. Upon receiving a report, we will:

• Review the report and investigate the complaint
• Take appropriate action, which may include warnings, temporary suspension, or permanent account deletion
• Notify relevant authorities if illegal activity is suspected
• Provide 24/7 support throughout the investigation process

7.3 Account Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time, with or without notice, if:

• You violate these Terms of Service
• You engage in prohibited activities
• We receive credible reports of misconduct
• Your account poses a safety or security risk to other users
• Required by law or legal process

Upon termination, your profile and data will be deleted within 30 days as outlined in our Privacy Policy.

8. Safety and Disclaimers

8.1 Background Checks

PairUp does NOT perform background checks, criminal record checks, or identity verification beyond email, phone, and optional ID verification. We encourage all users to:

• Exercise caution when meeting users in person
• Meet in public places for initial meetings
• Inform friends or family of your plans
• Trust your instincts and report suspicious behavior

8.2 User Interactions

PairUp is a platform that facilitates connections between users. We are not responsible for:

• The conduct, behavior, or actions of any user on or off the platform
• Any agreements, arrangements, or transactions between users

• Compatibility or success of housemate matches
• Disputes between users

9. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

9.1 "AS IS" Service

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT.

9.2 Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY NIGERIAN LAW, PAIRUP SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Loss of profits, data, or use
• Personal injury or property damage
• Damages resulting from user interactions
• Unauthorized access to your account or data
• Service interruptions or errors

9.3 Service Availability

We strive to provide uninterrupted service but do not guarantee that the Service will be available at all times. We may experience downtime for maintenance, updates, or technical issues.

10. Dispute Resolution

10.2 Mediation and Arbitration

If we cannot resolve a dispute informally, you agree to participate in mediation or arbitration in accordance with Nigerian law before pursuing litigation.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Any legal action or proceeding arising from these Terms shall be brought exclusively in Nigerian courts, and you consent to the jurisdiction of such courts.

11. Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective when posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. For material changes, we will:

• Provide a reasonable time period to review the changes
